WHO IS SYLVIA FLATS?

Sylvia Flats is a Performance Artist and Gender Terrorist. She has been confusing, terrifying and delighting audiences since she burst onto the scene, coming second in the 2004 Alternative Miss Ireland competition. She has performed all over the country and is a frequent guest act on London's alternative drag scene, particularly in collaboration with Duckie and David Hoyle. She was the compere of the open mic drag night, Black Box, which ran from 2006 - 2010 and was hailed by Gay Community News as "the shining light of Dublin's Drag scene".

Heavily inspired by visuals, her first solo exhibition, Self-Portraits, was shown at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 2010 and revolved around the striking, experimental image of Sylvia placed in typical domestic contexts (the image above is taken from this show). There is also an extended preview of this exhibition in Commotion's Gallery

She can also lipsync the house down.
